Modeling research on the extreme hydraulic extension length of horizontal well: impact of formation properties, drilling bit and cutting parameters

Abstract Horizontal well can increase productivity and improve the economic benefit, which significantly promotes development of shale gas, tight oil heavy oil. Moreover, it plays an important role in natural gas hydrate. extension ability is one key indexes horizontal well, but always impacted by formation properties structure. Therefore, a model established to analyze impact structure as comprehensive possible, considers not only traditional influencing factors, like pressure drilling bit parameters, also other including cutting particle size, wellbore diameter cross section. Based on analysis, some advises are proposed for field application. The analysis indicates that has stronger with low high fracture pressure, still limited pump pressure. Under-balanced strength reducing mud density. fractures should be noted when long well. length increases then decreases so optimal size length, adjusted rate penetration rotation speed. first gap between string hole. Considering demand rock breaking sweeping around bit, recommended adjust parameters. Both bed height eccentricity have changing minimum cutting-carry annular drop.
